10 THE ZIONSVILLE STAR THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 2010 ZIONSVILLESTAR.COM HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER PREVIEW: ZIONSVILLE Eagles ready for the challenge 1 fcr vl r--r I I A ft Lindsey Hansen Kelly Miller Claire Poindexter Alissa Hansen Natalie Estes Solid returnees put team in position for another good year Star report Another year, another season of high hopes for the Zionsville girls soccer team which a year ago won its first sectional and regional titles since 2005 and is aiming to repeat that feat in 2010. Problems: For one, the Eagles saw a number of key players graduate, including All-North Player of the Year Hadley Stuart (Purdue), Kasey McKenney (Rice) and Kristin Haseley (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis). Also, Zionsville long has been aligned in one of the state's toughest sectionals, with Car-mel, Hamilton Southeastern and Nobles-ville, all formidable opponents. Solutions: The team's history, plus its returning players. Those include a pair of Division I recruits Samford's Lindsey Hansen, who scored 15 goals and added three assists in 2009, and East Carolina's Kelly Miller (a defender) along with potential D-I player Alissa Hansen (a junior defender).

Also back is senior defender Sarah Kuehl, plus sophomore Claire Poin-dexter and junior Tiffany Dove. In total, the Eagles return six starters, and welcome back two key players (Poin-dexter and Natalie Estes) from injury. Coach Ramon Aguillon also believes freshman Katy Keen will see some significant time. Overall, Aguillon believes his team will be solid defensively, and that it again can challenge for a sectional title, along with posting a strong regular and Hoosier Crossroads Conference season (the Eagles went 16-3-4 overall last year, including 5-1-3 in league). The tough games begin early; after Saturday's scrimmage at Center Grove, Zionsville opens the season Monday at Carmel.

Miller, an East Carolina recruit, and Lindsey Hansen, who's headed for Samford, will be among the Eagles' leaders this fall.
