32 THE ROCKLAND COUNTY JOURNAL-NEWS NfAvJK, N. MONDAY, DECEMBER II, 1967 RCC Bows, 737-83 Ulster Community Crushes Rockland i- '-i 1 '5. 'T' i i jif YC-k a Ik '-v-' -i a i "it I i 3 4 i I tiiniiiniiii mumt uminr-r i iiiininTiniiniail formers on the court, Mike Derrenbacher, went on a rampage to score 17 points for Ulster. Fred White made it 100-57. All of the benchwarmers except Rockland's Wayne McGaha tasted the scoring feast.

McGaha didn't have a playing shirt. Ulster remainded unbeaten (40) and has disposed of Rockland and Orange in the conference. They have also whipped C. W. Post and Fashion Institute.

The Rockets are 1-3 with two league losses. They have scored 82 points or better in each game. Four Ulster players and one Rocket fouled out. A year ago Ulster finished without a reserve player in another fouling duel. Rockland Wrestlers Triumph The Rockland Community College wrestling team scored an Green commented, "The schedule hurt us.

Rockland faces the toughest teams first and we needed a few games to reach our best effort." The Rockets are first-year players and their inexperience against the more seasoned rivals is showing. Charles Alberta started in the Rockland lineup for the first time and needed time to catch up. In the first minute of the torrid action, Ulster had three fouls. Rockland fought under the boards, Mob-ley and Jim Buchanan rebounding, but their shooting was ice cold. The Rockets missed 12 straight before Ricli Alfieri clicked from the side.

Hann's 3-pointer moved the Senators ahead, 10-2. MOBLEY IDT a side toss and, following four points by Ulster, again connected for his last basket of the first half. Alfieri reduced the spread to 21-11 but here Ulster outplayed the Rockets and zoomed ahead, 41-15, with Ro-selli and Chando scoring. Mobley, with three personals, took a seat and Coach Pierson tried several combinations with little success. Brian Ca-ruth slipped six tries into the hoop at the foul line and hit a basket before the half ended with RCC behind, 71-33.

Ulster left little doubt as to the outcome and it became a matter of how high they were going to score. With the subs pouring into the contest the action became rough but tempers were controlled. Botli teams were in foul trouble midway through the first half. MOBLEY AND Flagg supported the Rockland offense in the second half but there was no hope of catching the Senators. Uhl, now 24 years old and the father of two, scored By SAM BASSON Journal-News Sports Writer Undefeated Ulster unleashed its bomb load early squelching the Rockland Community College courtmen, 13183, in a one-sided, hardwood-scorching Mid-Hudson Conference contest at Suffern High Saturday night.

The Senators from Kingston quickly utilized a full court press to rattle the Rockets and streaked away to a 25-point lead in the first 10 minutes. Coach Howie Pierson's Rockets lost its composure and couldn't hit the bucket, nowhere, no-how, missing 12 straight attempts. BEFORE THE final buzzer every Ulster player scored with Joe Uhl, former Boston College freshman, pacing the blistering offense with 21 points. Leon Hanna (20), Frank Rosseli (15), and Rod Chando (15) powered the first half inundation while Hanna and diminutive Mike Derren-bacher (15) heated the hoop in the second half. Les Mobley, the former Chelsea High star, led the losers with 25 points.

Warren Flagg notched 16 points. Both teams kept the officials busy fouling 40 times in the first half and making 25 violations later. Both teams made 27 points at the free throw line. COACH PIERSOX was unhappy. "We practiced working against the press.

The boys were making their shots but out there tonight, it didn't go well at all. This loss hurts us. We're two down in a tough league." The Mid-Hudson Conference is power-packed this season with all of the colleges considerably beefed up with imports. Although Coach Pierson now has more height than in the past, inexperience and tougher opposition have combined to make this season off to a poor start. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! By BOB GREEN Associated Press Sports Writer Johnny Wooden didn't say so, but he may have been thinking oi Houston. "Although I feel the Bruins would win over any opponent in a series of games on a neutral court," said the coach of top-ranked and unbeaten UCLA, "I know quite well the hazards that often befall visiting teams and the possibility of good teams coming up with great nights." VVooden's juggernaut rolled over Iowa State 121-80 Saturday night, making the Cyclones their 37th consecutive victim and third this year. And it left Iowa State Coach Glen Anderson shaking his head in bewilderment. "They're the finest college basketball team I've ever 6een," he said. Lew Alcindor tossed in 45 points and five Bruins scored in double figures.

Houston, ranked ao. 2 in the nation, scored its fourth straight victory, beating Illinois 54-46 at Champaign with Elvin Hayes scoring 25 points.
