Thornton Mary Lou Winget Battle Creek Colon Mi dJ Marion Elizabeth "Mari-beth" (Smith) Duhrkoff, age 57, of Marshall, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Borgess Medical Center. Mrs.

Duhrkoff was born on June 7, 1950 in Grand Haven to Milton J. and Margaret (Secory) Smith. Mari-beth was a graduate of Albion High School, class of 1968, and had taken class at both Western Michigan University and Kellogg Community College. From 1980 to 1985, she had been employed by Ben Lark at his insurance Lois A. Hixon, 74, of Battle Creek, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Battle Creek Health System.

She was born January 31, 1933 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of Roy and Rosella (Weniger) Traister. Lois was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was the Superintendent of the church nursery for many years. She enjoyed travel, puzzles, and caring for children. She had been a waitress at Bill Knapp's since 1962. On February 25, 1949, she was married to Homer R.

Hixon, who preceded her in death on May 17, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marilyn Valquez. Surviving are her son, David Hixon of Battle Creek; three sisters, Beverly Hallock of Battle Creek, Janice Teller of Litchfield and Carol Peck of Battle Creek; one brother, Dale Traister of Battle Creek; and stepmother, Guess Traister of Battle Creek. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethel Baptist Church or the American Lung Association.

Virginia Wolter, of Battle Creek, formerly of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the age of 77, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. She was born November 27, 1929, in Albion to William and Edith (Miller) Trader. She married Kenneth Wolter on September 26, 1948; he preceded her in death. Virginia worked as a cashier for many years at Kroger's and at Felpausch Food. She was a member of St.

Paul Lutheran Church in Albion and was a member of the Friendship League. She enjoyed playing bridge and loved to spend her winters in Florida with Kenneth before his passing. Together they sold produce every summer which she enjoyed. Going to the flea markets, camping and miniature schnauzers were other loves of hers. She is survived by one daughter, Kim Hoexter (Mike Fleming) of Battle Creek; one son, Kent Wolter (Teresa Burkwalt) of Albion; brother-in-law, John (Dorothy) Wolter, Spring Arbor; grandchildren, David and Donnie Hoexter of Battle Creek, Bill Wolter of Marshall; and cousins, Shirley Claucherty of Albion, Dick and Dolores Cope of Fort Myers, FL.

She will also be missed by many friends including Arlene Taylor, Dorothy Johnson, Kenny Orwig, Veronica Wheeler and Stella Flogaus. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Albion, with the Reverend Dan L.

Seng officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Albion. Visitation will be held Monday, October 22, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Donations may be made to the church. Arrangements by J.

Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion. David Veril Green, 72, of East Leroy, MI, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Battle Creek Health System, surrounded by his family. He was born August 18, 1935 in Detroit, MI, the son of Charles Veril Green and Allegra Alice (Kimball) Green. David retired in 1995 after 25 years of service at the Kellogg Company as a head machine man. He previously was a welder at Clark Equipment, a foreman for H.

B. Sherman Company, a bus-boy for the Battle Creek Sanitarium Hospital, and a service station attendant for Huff Gas Station. David married the former Barbara Jean Baird on February 26, 1955 in Battle Creek, MI. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Green of East Leroy; two sons, David J. (Diana) Green and John E.

Green of Battle Creek; a special friend, (Marijke Rathke) of Comstock; two grandchildren, Kristin N. and Sean E. Green; one brother, Charles Green; and two sisters, Norma (Don) Ryan of Battle Creek, and Sharon (Lee) Smith of Colon, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert C. Green.

He came to Battle Creek from Lansing in 1945 to live in the Wattles Park area. Then he moved with his family in 1970 to live in East Leroy. He received his high school education through the GED program from M.S.U. He had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Family Altar Chapel, and attended the First Church of the Nazarene. He was very handy at fixing just about anything mechanical.

He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on his 1946 Ford Coupe, cooking family meals, and enjoyed his 40-acre farm and pets. He especially loved Jesse F. Thornton, age 59, of Colon and Dayton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Alterra Sterling House of Beavercreek, OH. He was born on March 29, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph Earl and Jessie Martha (White) Thornton. Jesse graduated from Christian Fenger High School in Chicago, Illinois and attended the University of Wisconsin.

He worked for International Harvester (Navistar) in both Illinois and Ohio. Jesse also operated his own printing company, Thornton Son, in Chicago. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America program his entire life, and for the past 10 years served as Troop Committee Chairman and Crew Advisor for Saint Andrew United Methodist Church's Boy Scout TroopCrew 56 in Beavercreek, Ohio. Jesse was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Antoinette (Continio) Thornton, as well as his beloved parents, Joseph E. and Jessie M.

Thornton. He is survived by one son, Joseph Anthony Thornton (Rachael Zerran) and three granddaughters: Ruth Annmarie, Ryyan Zerran and Sarah Ann, all of Huber Heights, Ohio. Jesse is also survived by his Aunt Frances and Uncle King Stutzman, and his cousins, Peter and Timothy (Martha) Stutzman, all of Wilmette, Illinois. He will be sorely missed by his extended Scouting family, consisting of the members of Boy Scout TroopCrew 56 and Tecumseh Council. Friends may call at the Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens on Monday, October 22nd at 10:00 a.m.

Mary Lou was born on June 2, 1926, in Coldwater, Michigan. She had been a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Albion High School. She was employed at Toellers, and then Jacobson's for 7 years as a sales clerk.

She married Charles T. Winget, who preceded her in death on December 13, 2003. She was a member of the Bedford Bible Church, was a Bluebird, campfire leader, and a room mother at the Springfield schools when her children attended. She and Charles spent their winters at Big Pine Key in Florida for several years, and then spent summers at Jones Lake campground in Delton. Surviving are her children, Sherry A.

(John) Omarrah, Cindi R. Hudson, and Charles T. (Sheri) Winget II, all of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren; and 6 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Ella (Greeman) Farwell. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m.

She then went to work for State Farm Regional Offices, first working as a Senior Auto Operations Assistant, and then being promoted to the position of Underwriting Assistant. She worked with State Farm, until retiring in 2006. In 1969, Mari-beth married Martin Simmons. The marriage ended in divorce.

She then married Darryl "Durk" Duhrkoff on her birthday, June 7, 1991, in Albion. Mrs. Duhrkoff was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marshall, serving as a deacon. She also had been a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society. She enjoyed playing golf, walking, gardening, and making quilts.

She loved watching QVC Home Shopping network and was a familiar sight at area garage sales. Mari-beth's life was center around her family, and enjoyed all of the time she spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Darryl; son, Jeffery (Stephanie) Simmons of Canton; daughter, Jennifer (Joe) Levack of Battle Creek; stepchildren, John Duhrkoff of Kalamazoo, Dawn (Ron) Poulter of Portage, and Diane (Johnnie) Paige of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Jayden Simmons, Nolan Levack, Tyrus Levack, Hank Levack, Christian Duhrkoff, Paige Poulter, Ron Poulter, Derrick Poulter, Shaquille Paige, and Morgan Paige; brother, Greg (Mariellen) Smith of Cascade; a niece, Jenna; and nephew, Ryan. The family will greet and share a meal with friends on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshall.

The evening will continue with a memorial service being held 6:30 p.m. at the church with the Reverend Seth Weeldreyer officiating. Viola was born on November 20, 1929, to Thomas and Mildred Johnston.

She graduated from Nashville High School. After nearly 40 years of service, she retired from the Kellogg Company in 1987. Viola was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and youth worker for many years at Glad Tidings Assembly Church. She had most recently been a member of First Assembly of God for over 30 years, with many of those years acting as President of the Women's Ministries. She also served as the WM sectional representative for the Michigan District of the Assemblies of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Esther. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, with visitation being held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Reese Cemetery.
