Panczak, 28, of 7140 Lazy Lane, Harsens Island, was killed in a motorcycle accident at 8:05 p.m. Sunday. Clay Township police said Panczak was driving northeast on the island at Green and Bates drives at high speed.

He left the roadway and lost control in loose gravel, police said. The motorcycle traveled about 330 feet before hitting a wooden fence and numerous trees, police said. Girl dies from accident injuries Elizabeth E. Porter died Sunday in Detroit Receiving Hospital from injuries suffered in a car-pickup truck accident Thursday on Busha Highway in Marysville. Miss Porter, 17, of 1655 New Hampshire Marysville, was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m.

Miss Porter was injured when the car she was a passenger in spun out of control after passing a semi-truck and collided with the pickup. driver of the car, Barry A. Bald- win, 19, of 580 St. Paul Marysville, was released from Detroit Receiving Hospital Sunday, according to a hospital spokesman. The driver of the pickup, Donald C.

Gray, 48, of 8365 Lakeshore Road, Jeddo, also was released. He was treated in St. John's Hospital, Detroit. The accident occurred about 3:41 p.m. north of Huron Avenue.

Businesses damaged in downtown Sarnia SARNIA A late-night fire in downtown Sarnia was confined to one building Sunday, although four other businesses suffered heavy smoke damage. The Star Lounge Restaurant, 157 Christina was almost destroyed, Sarnia police said. Knoll's Men's Wear, 164 Front S.S. Kresge 160 Front Craig Blair Men's Shop, 169 Christina and a hair styling business on Christina Street were damaged by smoke, police said. Police said the fire began in the restaurant building, which also housed National Billiards, about 10:46 p.m.

No cause has been determined. Firefighters from Sarnia, Sarnia Township and Point Edward responded. They remained at the scene most of the night and stood watch over the smoldering buildings into the morning. No one was injured. An investigation is continuing.

Man missing in lake St. Clair County deputy sheriffs are continuing to search for the body of an unidentified man believed drowned Saturday in Lake St. Clair off Strawberry Island. The man was swimming off a boat with several companions when he disappeared, deputies said. They were notified about 8:30 p.m.

Saturday. Two tires, rims stolen WATERTOWN TOWNSHIP Two tires and rims, valued at $1,000, were reported stolen Friday from a trenching machine parked along French Line Road, a mile west of M-19, said state police from the Sandusky post. Police said the machine is owned by Larry Jocham, Clifford. The theft occurred between Aug. 20 and 22.

Police have no suspects. Festival volunteers to meet A general meeting of the BridgeWater Music Festival volunteers will be held at 7 p.m. today in the Harrington Hotel. The festival is scheduled Aug. 31 in Pine Grove Park.

He was born Feb. 14, 1916. Mr. Burgett was a retired U.S. Air Force noncommissioned officer.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ellen Cunningham; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Marlene) Bombard, of Port Huron, and Mrs. John (Bertha) Schmidt, of Lexington; a brother, Orren, of Jeddo; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Viola) Burleigh, of Antioch, Mrs. George (Arlene) Howe, of Port Huron, and Mrs.

Bud (Bertha) Rogers, of Portland, 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Grant died earlier. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Querfeld Funeral Home, Dearborn. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West, Westland.

Funeral home visiting hours are from noon to 9 p.m. today. Vaugh R. Stirrett SANDUSKY Vaugh Robert Stirrett, 61, of 288 Washington, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in his home after a long illness.

He born July 16, 1919, in Huron County, and had lived in Sandusky for 17 years. He married Evajean Sumerville Aug. 4, 1942, in Bad Axe. Mr. Stirrett was a Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Michigan Harness Association. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth, of Snover, and William, of Fort Hood, four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Sandra) Collins, of Attica, Mrs. Vickie Duffy and Mrs.

Dan (Becky) Miller, both of Sandusky, and Mrs. Larry (Diane) Hall, of Croswell; six sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Vera) Broomfield, Mrs. John (Gloria) Blew and Mrs. William (Lois) McDowell, all of Bad Axe, Mrs.

John (Dorothy) Nugent, of Wideman, Mrs. Clarence (Jane) Kloska, of Bay City, and Mrs. Gene (Floy) Allen, of Troy; three brothers, Milford, of Brown City, Max, of Bad Axe, and Hall, of Caseville; and 17 grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Hacker Funeral Parlors.

The Rev. Chris Anderson of the Hope Lutheran Church, Juhl, will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Funeral home visiting hours end at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Melvin E. Hawley PORT HURON Melvin E. Hawley, 70, of 5269 Dove Road, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 23, 1980, in Port Huron Hospital. He was born Jan.

16, 1910, in Port Huron, where he was a lifelong resident. He married Anna Vansach in 1940 in Port Huron. Mr. Hawley retired in 1975 from the Mueller Brass where he had worked for 32 years. He was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church and its men's club.

He is survived by his wife; and two sisters, Mrs. Esther Willett, of Au Gres, and Mrs. Elsie Reicherd, of Port Huron. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Carl J. Sangers will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joe and Gary Vansach, Harvey Bannister, Bill Hawley, Dennis Willett and Dennis Bilina.

Visiting hours in the Arthur Smith Funeral Homes, South Chapel, are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday. Visiting hours in the church are from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the church.

Gordon A. Lasceski KINDE Gordon A. Lasceski, 59, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw.

He was born Aug. 25, 1920, in Kinde. Mr. Lasceski was a farmer and a machine repairman at Active Industries, Elkton. He was a parishioner of St.

Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society. He and Anastasia Fletcher were married Nov. 3, 1945, in Port Austin. Mr. Lasceski is survived by his wife; two sons, Walter, of Kinde, and Thomas, of Port Austin; two daughters, Mrs.

Andrew (Cecilia) Szuran, Saginaw, and Mrs. Frank (Veronica) Duda, Sterling Heights; six brothers, John, Edward, Harry and Raymond, all of Kinde, Michael, of Filion, and Paul, of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Murawski, Reese; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Makowski and Mrs.

Gertrude Polega, and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Chuch, Dwight. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visiting hours begin at 7 p.m. today. The Holy Name Society will hold a rosary service at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. A parish rosary will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday in the fu- APPLEGATE Frank W. Fetting, 83, of 3495 Loeding Road, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in McKenzie Memorial Hospital, Sandusky, after a short illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1896, in Cash, and was a lifelong area resident.

He married Ella Maedel Nov. 4, 1919, in Applegate. Mr. Fetting was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Cash Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Erwin and Donald, both of Elgin, and Marvin, of Applegate; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Lorraine) Fagan, of Port Huron; two brothers, Harvey, of Sandusky, and Ralph, of Marysville; a sister, Mrs. Eldon (Mable) Osborn, of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Isabel, Beatrice and May, died earlier. Services will be held at noon Wednesday in the Hacker Funeral Parlors, Sandusky.

Elder Russell Loeding of the Port Huron Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Elder Russell Badgero, Applegate, will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Watertown. Funeral home visiting hours end at noon Wednesday. Mrs. Clare R.

Davis Frank W. Fetting DRYDEN Bell Rockhill Davis, 82, of 5544 Liberty died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in Almont Community Hospital after a short illness. She was born July 23, 1898, in Dryden, where she had lived all of her life. She married Clare R.

Davis Jan. 13, 1923, in Detroit. Mrs. Davis attended the Dryden United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs.

Dolores Hebert, of Dryden; a son, Clare of Burton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Dryden United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bufford W.

Coe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visiting hours are tonight in the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. Mrs. Joseph V.

Dean CARSONVILLE Mattie E. Dean, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in Provincial House, Cass City. She was born Sept. 12, 1889, in Oscoda.

She married Joseph Vernon Dean April 22, 1908, in Carsonville. He died Feb. 28. 1963. Mrs.

Dean was a member of the Carsonville United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Max, of Okemos, and Rex, of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Ethelyn Plodlis, of Newport Richey, and Mrs. Katheryne Bacon, of Carsonville; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Burial will be in the Washington Township Cemetery. Visiting hours in the Carman Funeral Home, Carsonville, begin at 7 p.m. today. Floyd L. Hoffman HARBOR BEACH Floyd L.

Hoffman, 46, of 237 N. Fifth died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in 1 Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an apparent heart attack. He was born Feb. 1, 1934, in Huron County, and was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Hoffman was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed 19 years at the Ruth Farmers' Elevator and was a life member of Post 5740, V.F.W., Parisville. He and Mary Lou Halifax were married June 22, 1957, in Minden City.

Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife; a son, Richard, Harbor Beach; five daughters, Mrs. Debbie Melnik and Marilyn, Judy and Susan Hoffman, all of Harbor Beach, and Mrs. Charlotte Bredow, Filion; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Richard Hoffman, Harbor Beach; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. The Rev. Brent Webster, pastor of Harbor Beach United Methodist Church, will officiate.

She was born Nov. 16, 1962, in Port Huron. Miss Porter was a 1980 graduate of Marysville High School, where she had been a cheerleader. She is survived by her parents, Donald L. and Jean Porter; and three brothers, Donald L.

Thomas W. and David all of Marysville; and her grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. C.W. Porter and Mrs.

Marysville council holds hearing tonight MARYSVILLE The City Council will hold a public hearing tonight about tax breaks requested by a Marion, Ohio, company which plans to open a plant in the city. The council meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. The public hearing is set for 8 p.m.

in the city administration offices, 1111 Delaware Ave. Robotix Systems Inc. will open a plant in the former Palmer-Bee plant, which is in the south end of the city's industrial area on former Dow Chemical Co. property. The company will be allowed to ask for property breaks of as much as 50 percent years, if the council tax, establishes an industrial development district and approves the company's project plan.

The company will manufacure industrial automation equipment used in the machine tool industry. Robotix management personnel will be transferred to the plant. Jonathon Rye of Robotix said the company will employ 15 to 30 persons when it starts operations this fall. About 70 persons are expected to be hired by the end of 1980, he said. Long-range plans call for 150 to 200 employees in two or three years, Rye said.

Robotix also is seeking financial backing from the Marysville Economic Development Corp. The corporation finances projects by issuing revenue bonds. The interest on the bonds is taxfree. Mrs. David L. Scott HARSENS ISLAND Agnes C. Scott, 68, of 7115 Lazy Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1980, in Mercy Hospital, Port Huron.

She was born Jan. 7, 1912, in Pennsylvania and lived 22 years in the Algonac area. She and David L. Scott were married Nov. 26, 1951, in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Mr. Scott died Feb. 17, 1973. Mrs. Scott is survived by two sons, Edward of Jackson, and Michael; and by a brother, Bernard Buchinski.

Manticote, Pa. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Gilbert Funeral Home. The Rev. Raymond Donahue, pastor of St.

Catherine's Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visiting hours are in the funeral home. Mrs. Eugene Cunningham PORT SANILAC Lillie A.

Cunningham, 94, of 1832 N. Lakeshore Road, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1980, in the Sanilac County Medical Center. She was born Nov. 20, 1885, in Port Huron, where she was former longtime resident.

Her husband, Eugene B. Cunningham, died in 1932. Mrs. Cunningham retired after 50 years as head of finance at the Port Huron Post Office. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Chapter 185, OES, Blue Star Mothers of America, Chapter 15, and the National Association of Federal Retired Employees.

She is survived by two stepsons, Kermit of Belmont, and Gail. of Frankenmuth; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Malane, of Port Huron, and Mrs. Paul (Corrine) Falletta, of Oak Park; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
