President Smith listed reasons for students to attend university as to learn how to earn a living, to equip themselves to live a life, and to take their place as citizens and assist in the molding of civilization. There was place for both practical and theoretical courses in university. He urged the students to study the opposing forces of democracy and dictatorship.
