This year Coach Clayton plans to play his son in the singles. The tournament will be held March according to region director Bob Carter of Amarillo.

Lawrence is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Lawrence who In Marque.

Chosen as one of the eight teams from this region out of a possible 15, the Wranglers finished their season early in February with a win-lose record of 10-15, finishing fourth in the region. Areas included in the region Texas, Eastern New Mexico, and Western Oklahoma. San Angelo College, number one in the nation, will also be competing in the Region Four tournament. The winner will go to Hutchinson, Kansas to play for the National Junior College title March 14, 15, 16. Wrangler coach Leland Willis is optimistic about the up coming tournament.

"I believe that we can stay on the Relay Team Wins First La Marque High School's two mile relay team composed of Roger Stager, Bennett Harvey, Ronnie Wolters, and Bill Pansky came in first place at the Bayshore Olympics in La Porte last Saturday. The winning time was 8 35 with La Porte and Deer Park taking second and third places. The Tigers' one mile relay team came in second behind Deer Park. "We feel that it is an honor and a wonderful opportunity to get to play in the tournament," Willis added.

The Wranglers returned to the boards Thursday after a brief rest. Daily practice is scheduled until the team leaves for Amarillo next Wednesday. Softball League Slates Tryouts Tryout dates for girls who are not already on a team in the La Marque Girls Softball League this year will be March 23 and March 30. Major League Girls, those who will be 13 by Aug. 1 but not past their first summer after graduation from high school, will report to the City Park Field at 9 a.m.

on these days, according to Floyd Brothers, League President. Minor League Girls, those who will be 10 by Aug. 1 but not 13 on Aug. 1, will report to the Lamar School Field on these days, also at 9 a.m'. Permission slips have been distributed to all schools serviced by the League and are available from the PE teachers.

Each girl trying out must have a signed permission slip with her when she comes to tryout. Even though they have been on a Minor League team before, all girls who will be 13 before Aug. 1 must tryout if they wish to play. They try out at major league park. The league officials wish to make clear to girls who already have sisters playing that they must try out regardless of this fact.

Girls who have valid reason not to be able to attend either of the two tryouts may submit a letter to Floyd Brothers, 714 Lilac, La Marque, explaining why they cannot try out. This letter must be received before the draft for players is held which will be Aithin a day or two after the tryouts. The Girls League this year has been invited to take part in the Recreation Department parade opening the summer season. This parade, June 1, will be followed by the opening games of the season. All teams are urged to make their plans to participate in this.

It is reported that prizes will probably be offered for the best float and perhaps other categories will be arranged. Plans have also been discussed for an early season all league picnic. The officers are open to all suggestions from interested parties on plans for this picnic or get together, as well as volunteers on parade ideas. Clayton Wins TC Net Meet Danny Clayton, La Marque High School's fine junior tennis player added another trophy to his many by upsetting Laddie Franks to win the Texas City Recreational Tennis Tournament last weekend. In the finals Sunday afternoon, Danny lost the opening set 2-6 and rallied for two straight 6-2 and 6-3 wins for the singles championship.

Bernie Bullock fell to Clayton in the semi-finals 6-2 and 6-3. Jimmy Kaper, another member of the La Marque High School tennis team, reached the consolation finals before falling to Jimmy Isenberg 7-5 and 7-5. The doubles team tournament will be held next weekend. More Lights For Stadium Ten additional lights are to be installed at the La Marque High School baseball field before the 1963 season begins. At the request of Buck Foster and Jesse Rodgers during the last February meeting, the Board of Trustees of the La Marque Independent School District agreed to spend $250 for the purchase of the lights.

Foster and Rodgers offered to install the lights at no cost to the school district. The first game at the high school diamond is March 28. Other members of the boys team are Russell Cook, Jimmy Kaper, Pete Faust, and David Blacklock. Blacklock is the only senior on the squad and was a letterman his sophomore year. Sandra Warren and Betty Coervers finished second in the district 12-AAA girls doubles last year behind the Alvin girls.

Both girls will be going for their third letter. Sandra McDermott, a one year letterman, will enter the singles for the Tigers. Members of the junior varsity team are sophomores Creig Stanky, Karl Anderson, James Holt, Stewart Brown, and Robert Drake. Coach Clayton stated that with this year's squad of junior varsity boys making a bid for the varsity, La Marque should have the toughest nine man squad in this area. The major problem facing Clayton with the boys team is to find a winning doubles'com- bination from Fuast, Kaper, Cook, and Blacklock; or, if one of these develops into a sound singles player, to pick one of the others to team with Danny in the doubles.

The overall picture for the girls is not as bright with Sandra McDermott being fhe only returning letterman in the girls singles and only three junior varsity girls, Jackie Meisetschlaeger, Shirley Little, and Carol Clifford to replace seniors Betty Coerver and Sandy Warren. Last year La Marque won the district 12-AAA team championship and had a duel, match record of 14 wins, one tie, and one loss. This years district meet will be held in Alvin April 3r-5. THESE ARE THE TIGER netters who won three meets this season. They are (front row, 1 to r) David Blacklock, Russell Cook, Robert Faust, Danny Clayton, Jimmy Kafer, (back row) Karl Anderson, Craig Stanley and James Holt.

The coach is Byrl Clayton. Attpurney Is Indicted By Grand Jury Austin--Sam J. Dwyer, a well-known El Paso attor- ley, was indicted recently by a Federal Grand Jury at Waco, Texas, on five counts of failure to file income tax returns. The grand jury charged that Dwyer had wilfully failed to file income tax returns for each of the years 1956 through 1960 during which period he had gross community income totaling $113,842, of which his one-half share was $56,921. Dwyer is a partner of Wellington Y.

Chew, an El Paso attorney who also was indicted today by the same grand jury on five counts of wilful failure to file income tax returns. Football Schedule For 1963 Is Announced Golf coach Jesse Darling will send the La Marque High School team to the links March 9 as they host the Brazosport Exporters in a duel meet at Little Leaguers Fill Out Forms Any boys from the ages of eight to 12 years and who lives anywhere west of Bayou Road and in the La Marque school district who wishes to play baseball this summer must fill out the release form. The American Little League player release forms were i i ted Monday at the Westlawn, Highlands, Queen of Peace and La Marque Junior High Schools. These forms must be completed and returned to the school no later than Friday, March 8, according to N. A.

Gimber, president cf the league. Gimber said it does not matter what team a boy played on last year, that he must fill out the form. This includes the Texas League as well as the Major and Minor Little Leagues. the Galco Country Club. Last year La Marque entered two teams in the district 12-AAA tournament and finished first and This year 13 golfers are competing for the first team.

Heading the list is Vince Glowacki, who last year placed third in the class AAA me- dalist competition in Austin. Other lettermen are Ronnie Tomas, jack Jones, Billy Testa, and Gray McMillan. Bob Van Landingham, Mike Winn, Dad Wade, Rusty Schlattman, Rusty Hill, Billy Burns, Billy McMillian, and Clifford Wegner complete the squad and are all showing up well. La Marque will enter the Brazosport, Galveston Columbus, Bayou Den in Beaumont, and the district 12-AAA tournament in Dickinson. 1963 Schedule March 9 Brazosport March 15 Galveston March 22 Brazosport March 23 Columbus March 29 Dist.

12-AAA meet in Dickinson April 6 Bayou-Den-Beaumont The La Marque High school Tiger football squad will play the same opponents in 1963 as they did in 1962. There is one change, however. La Marque is no longer the district favorite. Many returning lettermen at Clear Creek make the Wildcats a strong favorite to win district 12-AAA. Four games will be played on the local gridiron.

Texas City and Ball High will host the Tigers because of their larger seating capacity. Last autumn, the Tigers, coached by Orville Etheredge, posted a 6-4-0 record and posted a regular season 6-4-0 record and shared the district championship with La Porte, whom they defeated 14-7. Alvin was the only district team to whip La Marque. BOW 1963 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Date Sept. 6 Sept.

Billy Carraway primed the Tigers' scoring machine with a basses -empty home run in the bottom half of the second inning. La Marque counted again that inning when Bobby Collier singled home Russell McDonald who had reached first base on a safe hit, and arrived at third after a fielder's choice and a sacrifice. The third inning was twice as miserable for the Ball Tornadoes as the Tigers e- upted for four runs.

Carraway, still potent after his circuit swat, smacked a double driving home Clifford Shaw who had doubled and Mike Murray who had drawn a base on balls. Gary Hext extended the excitement with a single and Steve Jamail drove Hext and Carraway home with a long single. Both teams used four pitchers. The Tiger staff yielded one hit among them. Tiger batsmen jumped on the Tornado pitchers for eight base blows.
